#29: Labor Day & more weekend events
😍😍 If a friend sent this to you, please give them a big hug or high-five from me. Oh, and you can sign up for your own free copy here!
Good morning neighbor!
Is it me or have the season changes been abrupt this year? One week it’s heat dome, the next week it’s 50’s at night. This is my favorite time of year as we get to enjoy cool evenings without Spring seasonal allergies, but it felt like Mother Nature saw the calendar and just turned down the thermostat!
It’s Labor Day weekend and despite my best efforts, I couldn’t find any Labor Day parades super close by but you can find one in Gaithersburg as well as Kensington, which aren’t too far away if you like parades.
🎇 There will be fireworks in Maple Lawn in the parking lot behind 8120 Maple Lawn Boulevard (the building with Galliano’s) during an event from 6pm to 8:30pm. I suspect fireworks will start once the sun goes down (sunset time is around 7:45).
A reminder that all HoCo government offices, courts, animal shelters, 50+ centers, and the landfill will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day. Some county parks and community centers will be open, check the link for the full list.
Also, on September 2nd, HoCo’s Annual Tree Giveaway will open up at 10am.
In this week’s Fulton Flyer:
Fireworks on Saturday in Maple Lawn
UHC no longer accepted at Hopkins
Snoball stand outside Kendall’s is for sale
Here we go!

Savage Fencing Club
📷 by Jim Wang | 🗺️ Savage Fencing Club, Savage Mill
If you’ve ever thought about fencing, there’s a great fencing club in Savage Mill.
My son and I joined this fencing club in Savage last October and love it (one of our daughters did too, about two months ago). They have an 8-week beginner class starting Tuesday, September 9th, from 6-7pm. You won’t need equipment, you’ll get a glove to keep, and it’s a fun time.
While we’re not doing it for college purposes… but it certainly won’t hurt his chances!
